Supplement Seal Check

USP Verified

Label accuracy, contaminants, dissolution, GMP for everyday supplements

Summary

USP says a USP Verified product contains the listed ingredients in the declared amounts, lacks harmful levels of specified contaminants, was made under FDA GMPs, and dissolves within a specified time. [1]

What it tests

Manufacturing site audits for compliance with GMPs (21 CFR Part 111 and USP chapter <2750>), repeated annually. [2]

Review of quality-control and manufacturing documents, and lab testing of samples from selected lots against label and certificate-of-analysis claims. [2]

Annual post-verification surveillance testing of targeted products bearing the mark. [2]

What it doesn't cover

USP's consumer list of what the mark means doesn't include banned-in-sport screening; for athletes, USADA points to NSF Certified for Sport. [1] [3]

Seals don't guarantee safety or effectiveness. [4]

How to verify a product

Look up on their site

Use USP's Verified Product Finder to search all USP Verified products. [1]

Notes

The program is voluntary and complements FDA regulation under DSHEA. [2]
